North Charleston, SC —
Join us this Friday for Charlie at Charis, a live performance and rendition of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The
play was created by the students of Charis Academy in partnership with Art Pot and AccessAbility. The public is
invited to join for a sweet story and talented youth performances. The event is free of charge.
Charlie at Charis is the culmination of a year-long production and joined efforts of three participating organizations.
With inspiration from Art Pot and funding from AccessAbility, this pilot project utilizes dramatic arts programming to
further the physical and social development of children with educational challenges.
Charlie at Charis is scheduled for this Friday, November 16th from 7-9pm. Entrance is free of charge, open to all
ages, and will be held at the Art Pot Multicultural Center located at 5909 Loftis Road, Hanahan, SC 29410.
Charis Academy is a multi-sensory academic environment focused on meeting the specific educational needs of
children with different learning challenges. The academy emphasizes family involvement and optimizes the strength of
students on the spectrum through individualized curriculum.
Art Pot is South Carolina’s first Hispanic multicultural center. The organization integrates culture and education
through the arts. Art Pot was recognized nationally as 2017’s “Organization of the Year”. Its vision is to create a more
accepting community through art.
AccessAbility is a non-profit and Center for Independent Living located in North Charleston, SC. The organization
represents Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Williamsburg, and Orangeburg counties. They exist to promote the full
integration of people with disabilities in their communities and operates on a cross-disability basis.
